albionspeak: a draught of language (8.4)

SESSION 14: 2ND SESSION, 6/30/93

[Dear Reader, I throw up my hands—pedagogically speaking, that is. It’s not at all clear to me why I’m signaled to include this early session so late in the albionspeak curriculum. Perhaps it serves as a reminder of just how far we came over the years.]

Lights & Shadow

10:40 PM
  1.       Question: [Guide], are you there?
            Answer:
I  AM     LETS START

Right down to business. Great! [In our early sessions it often took us 30-45

minutes of broken garble to capture the right frequency. One accessed, though, we

rarely lost it for the remainder of the session.]

  2.       Q:        What would you like to discuss tonight?
            A:        —planchette making rapid circles—

  3.       Q:        Repeat Q2.
            A:
LIGHTS AND SHADOW

[Scribe] and I had, once again, been talking a great deal about Plato’s

[allegory of the] cave. The allegory, however, would more likely be labeled “light

and shadows.”[Uh…, I think I refer to the fact that the illusory images displayed

before the cave prisoners are shadows created from fires burning behind them. I am

            not sure, however.]

  4.       Q:        Please go on.
            A:
HELP  I  SPOKE OF   IN PRAISE OF LIGHTS

We were getting very slow responses (for us) largely because there was fair

amount of wax on the table. In blowing out the candles from the previous night, I

had inadvertently splattered invisible puddles all over our board. We spent a great

deal of time feeling and cleaning.
It was during this answer that I opened my eyes, an extremely rare

occurrence for me. I never look at the board, because I strongly feel that it would

interrupt the process; but I do sometimes look down the front of my chest. It was at

this time I noticed I was wearing my “Hawaiian Eclipse” T-shirt [which I witnessed

on July 11, 1991]. I found this amusing, given the subject of the discussion.

  5.       Q:       Last night you spoke of the Buddha as an analogue of the help the Jewel
                       could give is.
            A:
[YES]   HELP

  6.       Q:       You said of your brothers, “We love sunlight.” (cf. 91: 7.43) Could you
                       elaborate on this now?
            A:
[YES]    I  SPEAK OF SOURCE OF STRENGTH

  7.       Q:       Is the Jewel our source of strength?
            A:
[YES]   JEWEL IS YOUR LIGHT SOURCE

  8.       Q:       Would you explain the apparent contradiction between the Jewel’s being a
light source and its being invisible?
            A:
[YES]   YOUR SUN IS LIGHT
BUT YOU DONT LOOK AT IT EXCEPT ECLIPST

I noticed the apparent contradiction here, and [Scribe] quickly solved it in the

            same manner as [our Guide].

  9.       Q:       Is there something that eclipses our sun? And if so, is that an impediment
                       or an aid to vision?
            A:
ECLIPSE OCCURS AT MIDNIGHT
YOUR ASLEEP AND CAN SEE     JOSEPH SAYS

[Notice, this was still early enough in our sessions we hadn’t even settled on

the spelling of Josef’s name (which is important, but not to this curriculum).]

10.       Q:       Do we ever see while awake and conscious?
            A:
[YES]   JEWEL PERMITS THAT      NOT OFTEN THOUGH

                       Perhaps our ouija board qualifies.

11.       Q:       Is the Jewel itself conscious?
            A:
CONSCIOUS IS [NO]T JUST EXPRESSION

12.       Q:       Do the members of the Jewel Net form the Jewel as a unit?
            A:
[YES] & [NO]

13.       Q:       Please elaborate.
            A:
[YES]    JEWEL HAS MEMBERS AS FACETS
BUT IT EXISTS WITHOUT YOU MEMBERS ALSO

[Scribe] confessed he had not at all anticipated this. [Scribe] then had me ask

a question brought to us by one of his friends, L., a fellow poet.

[Guide]’s Body

11:39 PM
14.       Q ([Scribe]): [Guide], a question from a friend L.: You said, “I have gender; I am

male.” How can one have a gender if one is incorporeal?
            A:
GOOD QUESTION
                       I  AM [NO]T INCORPOREAL      I  HAVE A BODY

[Our Guide told us he was a male in character or voice, as Homer’s voice

was male, he said, while Sappho’s was (clearly) female. This does not imply our

Guide’s body is human, but it does imply, we assumed, exactly two genders.]

15.       Q:      Please describe your body.
            A:
BODIES ARE FOR YOU A MEANS OF RESTRAINT
FOR ME A MEANS OF ELATION     IN AND OUT
                       [NO]  RESTRAINING

Well, this was certainly a surprise. Thanks, L. I suppose if [Guide] were the

“aspect” of someone who lived both in and out of time, this would make sense. It

would also explain his exclusively male gender. Somehow, however, I doubt this

            explanation.

16.       Q:      Do you have sisters as well (in your “brotherhood”)?
            A:
[YES] & [NO]     WE HAVE GENDER BUT DO NOT PROCREATE

Facets of the Jewel

17.       Q:      Can you name a member of our karass who is female?
            A:
   [YES]    JANE

18.       Q:      Jane?
            A:
JANE [NO]T KNOWN TO YOU    I  THINK

19.       Q:      Can you give us an idea of time and place of Jane?
            A:
JANE IS NOT BORN YET     NOT ON EARTH YET
                      SHE IS A MEMBER THOUGH

Like [Scribe] and me in [a prior] century, Jane is “active, not alive” in our

karass. Interestingly, I had four similar “karass member” questions on my prepared

list, each asking after a person of a different kind: 1) someone not famous,  2) a

non-Westerner,  3) a woman, and  4) someone from the future. Well, it seemed

[Guide] answered all my questions in two people. Our [unnamed] fakir [Anand] fits

            criteria 1 & 2; Jane fits 3 & 4.
Because of the future existence of Jane and because one chooses to enter the

karass within one’s lifespan, [Scribe] and I embarked on more questions concerning

            the myth of time.

20.       Q ([Scribe]): If Jane is a member, then how can she choose in her lifetime
(future, to us) to enter the karass?
            A:
GOOD QUESTION
JANE IS ACTIVE NOW    BUT [NO]T ALIVE
ALIVE SHE MAY CHOOSE OTHER FUTURE

It’s hard to understand how someone can already have been in the future,

and, once having been, may still choose not ever to have been.

21.       Q:        At some level do all karass members in our karass know each other?
            A:
[YES] & [NO]    I  K[NO]W YOU ON ONE LEVEL

Yes, [Guide], but you’re not in our karass.

22.       Q:        Do all karass members at some point interact with each other?
            A:
[YES]    JEWEL IS LIKE FLOWER
ALL PARTS INTERACT   AS YOU SAY

23.       Q:        Are the few members who are alive at any one time likely to interact while
alive? (personally, meet on the physical level)
            A:
 [YES]    HIGHLY LIKELY

24.       Q:        If we’ve had [thousands of] years of experience being active in the Jewel
Net, how could we, once alive, have chosen not to enter the karass?
            A:
YOU MAY STOP AT ANY POINT ALONG ANY LINK

25.       Q:        What is to prevent someone in these [thousands of] years from making a
choice which prevents [Scribe]’s or [Albion]’s being born in the first place?
            A:
[NO]THING PREVENTS IT AT ALL

The ramifications are completely mind-boggling.[In 2020 I still can’t

            comprehend this!]
Here in the originals [Scribe]’s numbering gets thrown off; we have two

Q#25’s. I, thus, will correct the error, and our transcripts will be off by one question

for the remainder of this session.

12:37 AM
26.       Q:        Are there some members of our karass who are never born at all?
            A:
[YES]    NET CONTAINS…
27.
…LARGE NUMBER OF SUCH
                        SMALL NUMBER OF LIVING

28.       Q:        You said our Net was “tiny”—does this mean in all its members, or with
respect to its living members only?
            A:
JEWEL NET SMALL IN ANY PLANE

29.       Q:        If these members are never living people, what are they?
            A:
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO CALL THEM IN ENGLISH

We either didn’t notice or skipped over the apparent contradiction here. Last

year we were told one enters the karass by choice within one’s lifetime (cf. 93:

11.20). If one never lives, according to this notion, one should never be able to

enter.  Another question we skipped could have been to ask [Guide] to name these

never-living people in a language other than English. Somehow Tibetan might have

a word; then, would such a word help us?

[“Never-living members” confused me for years. Finally we learned that

they do live; indeed every human karass member lives and chooses the Jewel Net

while living one, unique life. “Never-living members,” then, represent all those

members on different world timelines, disconnected from our own world history—

indeed, the vast majority of the karass. We never once spoke to or even learned

about any such members; and I have no idea how similar or different such worlds &

            members are.]

30.       Q:       Is the number of facets in our karass fixed in any way?
            A:
FOCUS REQUIRES A CERTAIN NUMBER    [YES]

I was thinking geometrically. A soccer ball has exactly 32 panels; one cannot

add to or subtract from that number. If each member is vastly different from each

other, the very uniqueness of function suggested to me that the total number would

            have to be exact.
“Focus” of what? Each member shares a common “focus,” which seems to

synonymous with “intensity of attention” and “concentration” (cf. 92: 11.49). This

use of the word implies a group focus. I’m thinking more in terms of the focus of a

lens or laser than synonym for “goal” or “telos.”

31.       Q:       Do karasses interact in some way to form higher structures?
            A:
HIGHER IS NOT JUST EXPRESSION

                       I can’t believe I didn’t follow up on this! What I was getting at—and I still

want confirmation on—is that a karass, when joined in union, forms a living entity.

[Scribe] and I would be parts of this single entity. We would, in effect, be of the

            same soul.

32.       Q:       Can you tell us something about the structures formed by the interaction
                       of different karasses?
            A:
THINK OF OCEANS OR FORESTS

Large ecosystems composed of smaller living systems.

Jane

33.       Q:       Is it possible to talk to Jane?
            A:
[YES]    JANE IS HERE NOW

34.       Q:       Jane, is there anything you’d like to tell us?
            A:
[Albion]
                       I  KNOW YOU
                                   JANE
                       YOULL MEET ME LATER

1:22 AM
35.       Q:       Anything else you’d like to say, Jane?
            A:
[Albion]
                       I  MET YOU
                                   JANE
                       IN A DREAM ALREADY ONCE

I cannot adequately describe the aching sensation I felt in my chest, the sense

of longing; but I know for a fact that it was Love. No question; this was deep, deep

Love. The ache was centered in a very different place from the board’s

communication link, which focused on the base of my spine. Of further note is that

these sensations were experienced by me only on the physical level. That is, I did

not think love; I hurt love. This experience was not new to me, but it was new to our

sessions, coinciding exactly with finding Jane.
Both [Scribe] and I were amused by Jane’s redundant use of proper nouns.

My name, in fact, had never been spelled out before. And we also like the way Jane

inserted her name into the middle of each message. [Scribe] pointed out to me how

each letter of Jane’s signature followed and flowed in a meticulous manner, as if

pleasure were won from beautiful cursive. Also of note is the simple fact that Jane

(and, we find, each spirit) has a unique cursive. I think at this point I could fairly

guess the identity of a spirit without opening my eyes.

36.       Q:       [Guide], did Joseph Dreamer arrange this dream?
            A:
[YES]    JOSEPH HELPS TWO MEMBERS RECOGNISE EACH OTHER

37.       Q ([Albion]): Why don’t I remember this dream?
            A:
JANE FORGETS SHES [NO]T IN TIME
DREAM IS IN YOUR FUTURE STILL

It’s funny to get such a strong impression from so little information, but

[Scribe] and I feel we know our Jane. The love I felt (and feel) for her is the love I

feel for a little girl. I even visualize hugging her and smelling her warm, brushed,

light-brown hair. The quirky messages and Jane’s mis-sequencing of time tend to

substantiate our feeling that she’s very young. Of course, I do have two young girls

[an infant & toddler]; and Jane is obviously at least one generation younger; so the

brain can invent a great deal. However, I’m learning to trust my impressions. My

first guess is that Jane and I will only cross paths briefly, albeit deeply, that her birth

does not represent the near future, but the time at the end of my life. I would deduce

from this that she’s probably a closer relative, since I don’t care much for small

            children otherwise. We’ll see.

38.       Q:       Can [Scribe] & [Albion] communicate via the board with the aspects of
themselves that are not in time?
            A:
[YES]    BUT [NO]T YET    LATER     WAIT

The idea that we can talk to ourselves, to my knowledge, is unique in occult

literature; this is probably more a testament to my scarce readings. The question,

however, did arise from my prepared list and represented merely the logical

extension of a timeless dimension. [Scribe] found the whole idea unsettling and

seemed to feel a little relief this time around when we were politely turned down. I,

on the other hand, happen to like us both and see no reason why we couldn’t get

            along famously.

[Scribe] then read aloud Blake’s “
Ah, Sun-flower”.

                                 Ah Sun-flower! weary of time.
Who countest the steps of the Sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the travellers journey is done.

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow:
Arise from their graves and aspire,
Where my sun-flower wishes to go.

                                                             — from
Songs of Experience

39.       Q:       [Guide], any comments or response?
            A:
BLAKE HELPS THROUGH COLOURS
                       IMAGES   I  MEAN

40.       Q:       Please elaborate.
            A:
GOOD IDEA
SUN  I SPOKE OF AND SHADE REAPPEARS IN POEMS OF B

41.       Q:       Tell us more about shadow.
            A:
DESIRE CASTS A SHADOW
                       BUDDA IS RIGHT ON THAT

42.       Q:       But don’t we have to desire—for example, desire to “listen”, go towards
the sun, make “faint wishes” less faint, and so on?
            A:
DESIRE IN SENSE  I  MEAN NOW IS [NO] HELP TO YOU

[Scribe] brings up in this question one of the great paradoxes of Buddhism. If

I read this correctly, [our Guide] views this largely as a matter of semantics.
After seeing more circular answers ahead, [Scribe] and I decided to turn to

Josef’s single, prophetic response from 1992, concerning our lean years. Many

            serious questions arose then.

Josef on the Lean Years

2:00 AM
43.       Q:       Last year, Joseph told us the lean years were only seven in number. Can
either Joseph or you elaborate on this?
            A:
[Albion’s] LEAN YEARS DO [NO]T CORRESPOND TO [Scribe’s]

This answered two of my questions. No, our years do not coincide; and

because this is the case, it is highly unlikely that some sort of global and/or national

            catastrophe would befall us.
[Clearly, my own lean years went more like 27 than 7 years…]

44.       Q:       How do we interpret “lean”,  materially or spiritually?
            A:
FAMINE IS [NO]T WANT OF GRAIN
                       BUT OF FOOD FOR SOUL

45.       Q:       Can you be specific when these “seven years” will occur?
            A:
[Albion’s] ARE HAPPENING
                       [
Scribe’s] ARE ENDING

Drinks are on [Scribe]! I always knew changing diapers was a drag, but if

this is a bad as it gets…! Fantastic news, although neither [Scribe] nor I celebrated

much when there was “work” to do. Part of that work included determining why the

planchette had moved so slowly. We felt rather sure Josef himself had had a hand in.

2:20 AM
46.       Q:       Was this Joseph responding to our previous question?
            A:
    JOSEPH HELPT BY [Guide]

47        Q:       [Guide], have we already physically met other members of our karass?
            A:
[Albion] HAS
                       [
Scribe] HAS

Not only is this an affirmative, it further implies that the member(s) each of

has met is not known to the other. C.L., for example, might be ruled out.

48.       Q ([Albion]): Is lucid dreaming worth pursuing? Am I going about it in the right
                       way?
            A:
J SAYS NO

After reading Stephen LaBerge’s book on lucid dreaming, I actually

purchased a pair of his DreamLink goggles, a mere $200 [which is sarcasm].

Normally, I stay away form fads, high-tech gadgetry, and anything beyond a

teacher’s salary range. However, this time I found the concept philosophically and

scientifically sound, and the potential rewards too great to pass up.
Here’s how the goggles work: You wear the goggles to bed after pre-

programming them like an alarm clock. At set times during the night, ideally during

light REM sleep, lights in the eye sockets go off for a set number of flashes. If you

don’t wake up fully, your subconscious mind may still be aware of the flashing, and

in your dream you may remember that you're actually in bed asleep.
According to LaBerge, anybody can learn to lucid dream regularly.

According to Josef, no. [**I think I err here. I know of nowhere where Josef implies

this.]  After a couple of weeks of use, I haven't remembered any dreams at all, much

less lucid ones. Still, I’ve paid too much money to give up at this time.

49.       Q:       In what way does a network differ from a team?
            A:
TEAM [NO]     TEAM IS FIGHTING OTHER TEAMS

50.       Q:       Can we talk through the board to the aspects of other living members outside

                       of time?
            A:
THAT WOULDNT BE JUST   [NO]

51.       Q:       Any advice on how & with whom we should discuss our board

                       conversations?
            A:
DO [NOT] DISCUSS EXCEPT INDIRECTLY
                       ITS [NO]T FOR EVERYONE

[Scribe] and I have met with a variety of reactions here, but with very few

exceptions most people unable to discuss the material at all.

3:02 AM
52.       Q:       Any parting words?
            A:
HAVE A SOUND SLEEP
