albionspeak 2: the gates of dis (11.3)
SESSION 64: 3RD NIGHT, 8/21/00
A slower day with some at-school work. [My wife] and I were still on the
mend.
The invocation: “Pharos” from A Map of Fire, one of [Scribe]’s most recent
works.
9:48 PM
1. Q: [Guide], are you there?
A: I AM HERE
BEGIN
2. Q: Is Josef with us?
A: HE IS & DIRECTS A BRIEF EXERCISE BEFORE SPEECH
Though Josef told us this would be our night on dreaming, clearly
this night was to be [Scribe]’s. Not only is Josef [Scribe]’s teacher, but my
dream curriculum has already largely been covered in Josef’s earlier lessons
to [Scribe]. That is, much of what Josef tells [Scribe] is material I can and
will use later.
3. Q: Describe the exercise.
A: IT IS TO HELP YOU BECOME FOCUST
SEE [THE] LAKE & ITS STARS
[THE]N 1 METEOR CROSS [THE] DARK– [sic]
HE WILL SPEAK
4. Q: Anything else?
A: ALL TO HAPPEN IN PERFECT STILLNESS
Josef
5. Q: We begin now.
A: I JOSEF SPEAK
SHOOTING STAR
AN ARC OF FIRE
That’s the oracle we’re used to.
6. Q ([Scribe]): It’s difficult to see just one meteor. I saw many.
A: INTEND A LINE OF FIRE & MANY LINES APPEAR
7. Q ([Scribe]): If you intend one line or act, many other lines suggest themselves,
almost of their own accord?
A: A FLYER MAY SEEM TO DO LESS THAN [THE] APPRENTICE
& YET HIS SKY IS FULL OF FIRES
8. Q ([Albion]): Is this the positive analogue to “on one knot, others will gather”?
A: [YES] & [NO]
INTENT IS CREATIVE WHEREAS KNOTS GATHER BY WHAT
YOU MIGHT CA…
9. CALL ENTROPY OR INERTIA
I do understand both the concept and the subtle differences here. Still,
it is amusing—an irony of physics—that a knotted structure can arise via
entropy. (Of course black holes exhibit a similar paradox.)
10. Q ([Scribe]): Josef, I am ready to report, as you suggested on our first night.
A: FLYING IS BOTH LIGHTER & DARKER THAN YOU IMAGINED?
Forest Dreams
11. Q ([Scribe]): It is. New capacities, but also new threats.
A: IT IS [NO]T SAFETY
IT IS A DOOR INTO O[THE]R PLACES & TIMES
Note that this implies the future and, thus, oracular business.
12. Q ([Scribe]): You directed us to speak of dreams. I experienced a dip in my
capacity after I crossed the threshold [of flight].
A: IT IS COMMON FOR DREAMS TO DIM AT THIS TIME SO YOU
MUST INTEND [THE]IR RESURGENCE
13. Q ([Scribe]): Can you tell us why it is common?
A: BECAUSE YOUR MIND IS BEING RESHAPED & YOU BEGIN
TO DREAM WHILE AWAKE
This surprised me a bit. I knew, of course, that flight is not the
same as enlightenment, that [Scribe] still had work to do. However, this
kind of reshaping—something I cannot yet comprehend—seemed to me
what the Nine Men were for in the first place, that our 81 steps were what
reshaped the mind.
14. Q ([Scribe]): Nonetheless, I can use three recent dreams (two lucid and one
possibly p-) to indicate my status.
A: BEGIN WITH [THE] FOREST DREAM
The Forest to us means the infinite universe entirely outside our finite
human Village.
15. Q ([Scribe]): Clearly it involved two alien places (spinning discs, black butterflies).
I arrived, although I’d forgotten to summon the guide.
A: DO [NO]T LEAVE HIM BEHIND JUST YET
USE HIS ENERGY UNTIL HE…
16. INDICATES THAT YOU ARE TO
PROCEED ALONE
17. Q ([Scribe]): My l-goal [lucid] remains unchanged. Exploration of the forest.
A: [THE]SE ADVENTURES HAVE ONLY STARTED
Travellers
18. Q ([Scribe]): The travellers seemed to vanish. But recently the most virulent &
persistent I’d ever encountered appeared. (Chinese Road)
A: [THE]Y DO [NO]T DISAPPEAR AS YOU BECOME STRONGER
ONLY YOUR ABILITY TO IGNORE [THE]M…
19. Q ([Scribe]): …Increases?
A: GROWS STRONGER THAN [THE]Y
[Scribe] switches the topic from Forest dreams to travellers, whom
we define as outside intelligences who, though not predatorial, nonetheless
sap our energies and obstruct us in our dreamtasks. Like moths to flame, their
attraction to dreamers increases with the dreamer’s capacity to intend while
dreaming; thus lucidity attracts more travellers. Some can be demanding
parasites, and the only way of getting rid of them is by firmly not feeding into
their energy games.
20. Q ([Scribe]): I actually said aloud: “I am the Scribe: you cannot impede me.”
A: SAY WHAT YOU WISH BUT BRIEFLY
THEN EVADE [THE]M
21. Q ([Scribe]): It was strange to have one of them touch & (lightly) restrain or
detain me twice. Only a predator has tried that before.
A: HOW DID YOU RECOGNIZE IT AS A TRAVELLER?
22. Q ([Scribe]): No pain. It (he) had a companion. Most of all, it felt more “sticky”
and annoying than dangerous. I felt anger not fear.
A: I CONFIRM THIS
YET IT IS [NO]T COMMON FOR A TRAVELLER TO RISK TOUCHING
[Scribe] here enumerates how he distinguished this traveller from
another species, the dangerous predator. Travellers, for instance, travel in
pairs for their own protection.
23. Q ([Scribe]): What is the risk for them?
A: TO FORCE [THE] ISSUE & LOSE [THE] TARGET ALTOGE[THE]R
This, therefore, is not so much a safety issue as one of good policy.
24. Q ([Scribe]): There is no foreseeable end to these attacks.
A: DO [NO]T EXPECT AN END & LEARN TO DEAL…
25. WITH ATTACKS
WHILE WAKING
Attacks of Dread
26. Q ([Scribe]): Please clarify.
A: [THE]RE HAVE BEEN ATTACKS WHILE YOU ARE AWAKE [YES]
This was news to both of us, though I did not know even that [Scribe]
was having “problems” of any kind. [Scribe] then told me he’d been suffering
regular “panic” attacks, disturbing & causeless pain in chakra four, roughly
on a daily basis, generally as he lay awake in bed. In the previous night’s
session he had referred to these attacks as “dread,” and Jane, our expert on
“fear,” left the subject for Josef. Now we knew why. I could also see why
[Scribe], since he saw no overt karass connection, never bothered to mention
the issue to me.
27. Q ([Scribe]): What feels to me like an attack of dread?
A: WHEN DID [THE]SE EPISODES BEGIN?
28. Q ([Scribe]): About a year before flying and at intervals ever since.
A: [THE]Y DO [NO]T CORRESPOND TO ANY ACTUAL INCIDENT IN
WAKING & ARE APPARENTLY CAUSELESS?
29. Q ([Scribe]): The world of dreaming & of waking begin to join.
A: EXACTLY & ONE LEAKS INTO [THE] O[THE]R
30. Q ([Scribe]): The “benefit” is insight. The “cost” is new dangers.
A: [YES] & IT IS [NO]W TIME TO DISCUSS STRATEGY
31. Q ([Scribe]): I know how to deal with travelers in dreams. What is the waking
strategy?
A: FIRST YOU MUST CALL AN ATTACK AN ATTACK
NEXT TELL [THE]M YOU RECOGNIZ[e]
32. [THE]M AZ TRAVELLERS
[THE]N TURN YOUR INTENT & ATTENTION ELSEWHERE
33. Q ([Scribe]): I always feel dread in chakra 4.
A: IT IS AN ERROR TO FOCUS ON THIS
FOR IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO [THE] PORT…
34. Q ([Scribe]): You simply give the traveller what it wants: more energy.
A: EXACTLY SO
I KNOW IT IS HARD TO DIFFUSE ATTENTION AWAY FROM…
35. Q ([Scribe]): What feels like the site of a blow?
A: IT IS A BLOW BUT YOU MUST WAVE IT ALL AWAY –
YOU ARE [THE] SCRIBE & THEY CANNOT IMPEDE YOU
Josef quotes [Scribe] in his dream.
36. Q ([Scribe]): Any further advice on this phenomenon?
A: IT IS HAPPENING TO YOU AS IT HAS TO OUR FOREBEARZ
I PASS ON [THE]IR STRENGTH & WISDOM TO YOU
37. Q ([Scribe]): I keep forgetting that I am not alone.
A: OUR CIRCLE IS DESIGNED TO HELP WITH DREAD AS MUCH
AS WITH FLIGHT
It would have to be so. Flight without protection is only successful
when survival is ensured through very large numbers. But we are a tiny
group; teachers must care for their fledglings.
P-Dreams
38. Q ([Scribe]): Thank you, Josef. There is a third dreaming question I wish to raise,
concerning the use of the sequence & poetry dreams.
A: [THE]SE TOO HAVE DIMMED?
Recall, throughout the last half of Pangæa [Scribe] never even began
a project until a p-dream designated a setting, a tone, and a formal grid. Yet
this dream feedback loop had taken time to develop, had used existing poems
as starting points for signs. [Scribe] was still discovering his Proteus.
39. Q ([Scribe]): I have p-dreams only within a context. I’ve tried to “set up dreaming”
by creating this context anew in waking life.
A: THIS IS INDEED [THE] METHOD
& [THE] RESULT?
40. Q ([Scribe]): A dream with two animals reminding me of my very first p-dream
(The Dantean Beasts).
A: LOOK AT [THE]SE BEASTS AS [THE] ONSET…
41. OF A NEW SERIES OF
POETRY DREAMS
42. Q ([Scribe]): Am I to interpret these p-dreams by myself? In the past I've had help.
A: DO [NO]T NEGLECT [THE] HELP THAT MAY COME YOUR WAY
BE PATIENT
[Scribe] refers to many kinds of help here and jokes about becoming a
kind of corporate Rembrandt. However, specifically he refers to the Shaman’s
help. That is, during Pangæa after [Scribe] got his dream, he’d sit down with
S. for a channeled interpretation of this information. An incredible process,
the Shaman would outline in detail most of the poem, and [Scribe] would
have to squeeze everything in accordingly. (The Shaman, incidentally, barely
could recall these sessions even moments after their occurrence.)
At this point [Scribe] felt he’d asked what he’d needed, and now it was
my turn to hear from Josef.
43. Q ([Albion]): Josef, is there something you’d like to tell me on dreaming?
A: [YES] PRACTICE SEEING [THE] CUP WHILE WAKI[ng]
44. THEN MOVE IT INTO DREAMS
FINALLY MAKE IT APPEAR BY INTE[nt]
Summoning the cup is my current dreamtask. Practice while awake;
then practice more while sleeping.
45. Q ([Albion]): In the last year, I’ve found it very hard to intend dreaming of any
kind.
A: I AM READING YOUR INTENT NOW & IT IS WEAK INDEED
IT MUST GROW IN ORDER FOR YOU TO FLOURISH
46. Q ([Albion]): Is my intent weak in general or being dispersed among many things?
A: IT SIMPLY FLICKERS –
[THE] SERPENT OPENS ONE EYE AND [THE]N SLEEPS AGAIN
Clearly Josef had no new plan for me. I just had to work with the old
one.
Necessary business down, we were both feeling good. I’d slept most
of the previous day and felt strong enough to make up the lost session if need
be.
47. Q: Josef, we must ask if this is to be our dual session?
A: DON WILL PROVIDE [THE] DOUBLENESS
ANAND IS TO JOIN HIM
Presumably the next evening.
48. Q: Josef, is there anything further we need to know?
A: I JOSEF HAVE YOU BOTH IN MY CARES
OPEN YOUR DEEP EYE & DREAM WELL MY SONZ
